Obituary for Darlene Kay Magiera (Fietze)
Darlene Kay (Fietze) Magiera, 75, a longtime Chelmsford resident passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late W. Edward Magiera with whom she shared 46 years of marriage until his passing in 2014.
Darlene was born on September 27, 1945 in Benton Harbor, MI, and was a daughter of the late Julius L. and Adeline (Steinke) Fietze. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1963 where she was a majorette and loved to twirl the baton. She graduated from Mount Auburn School of Nursing in 1966 and she continued on to be an RN at Mount Auburn Hospital for many years on patient floors as well as the recovery room. She later worked at Allergy & Asthma Specialists of Chelmsford and then the Chelmsford Walk-In Medical Center until her retirement. Darlene was a nurse for her entire career, had the perfect personality to be one and was cherished by all her patients. Darlene was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where over the years she participated in choir and served on the Worship and Music Committee. Darlene was very musical. She played the piano, she loved to sing and she had a beautiful voice. In addition to the church choir, she sang in several different choral groups and knew many of her favorite hymns by heart. Darlene loved her family cottage on Sebago Lake in Maine where she spent many happy summers with friends and family. She loved playing cards including bridge, cribbage, and Bonanza Rummy. She was a very good card player and she loved teaching family members how to play. Darlene’s baking skills were unsurpassed and everything she baked, she baked with joy. Darlene especially loved baking recipes that reflected her parent’s German heritage. She loved family gatherings and hosting parties. She loved to laugh and her laughter was contagious. People loved being around her, she was fun and full of life. She was generous, caring, kind and giving and always wanted to do good for others. If she found out there was a person in need she would do what she could to help them. She loved her nursing friends and their annual trips together and over this past year she set up zoom calls to keep her friends connected. Darlene loved and cherished her friends and family, but most of all, she adored her immediate family - her three children and her beloved grandchildren.
Darlene had plans... At 75 years, she was planning to help after this surgery to answer the call to "retired nurses" to administer vaccines. She wanted to do this. She knew it as something necessary. It is just a drop in the bucket of the massive tank of giving she gave all who had the opportunity to be part of her life. Darlene had a very deep faith in God and there is no doubt she is in Heaven with Eddie looking down at all of us.
Darlene leaves her children; Laurie Rybicki and her husband Andrew of Chelmsford, Mark Magiera and his wife Bianca of Montpelier, VT; and Eric Magiera and his wife Lisa of Casco, ME; a sister, Marge Himmelman of Nashua, NH; a brother, Dennis Fietze and his wife Kris of Milford, NH; and six grandchildren: Benjamin Rybicki, Kaitlyn Rybicki, Jordan Magiera, Nicholas Magiera, Julia Magiera and Cherylanne Magiera and many nieces and nephews among them MJ Fietze and Debbie LeBlanc of Waltham; and all those who called her Nana including her “granddogs” Lola, Skipper, Pita and Charlie.
Darlene was the sister of the late Ronald Fietze of Burlington, who died in October of 2019.
