Charles H. Holtzman, Jr., 101, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 7, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Blake) (Paquette) (Dupuis) Holtzman.
Charlie was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 20, 1919 and was the son of the late Charles, Sr. and Abigail (Hittmeier) Holtzman. In 1940, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Devens. He proudly served his country during WWII. While serving, he was captured and spent 2 ½ years as a prisoner of war. He was employed at Fort Devens for many years, retiring from his position as office machine repairman. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Lowell Sportsman Club, the Lowell VFW and the American Legion, post # 313 in N. Chelmsford. He was also a member of the Chelmsford Elks. Charlie volunteered his time for 40 years as business manager and purchasing agent at Friends of the Senior Center, Inc. in Chelmsford.
In addition to his wife Rita, Charlie is survived by his children; Charles E. Holtzman and his wife Linda of Lowell and Gail Holtzman of Georgia, his 3 stepdaughters; Theresa Ledoux of NH, Mary Ann Morrell of Methuen and Joanne Bonczar of NH, his grandson, Craig Holtzman and Katie O’Brien of NH and his 2 great grandchildren. Charlie is predeceased by Beulah Smith, Annette Gravelle and Brenda Callahan and his brother Edward Holtzman.
Funeral services will be held privately. Interment will take place on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11am at Lowell Cemetery, 77 Knapp Ave. Lowell, MA 01852. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to the Friends of the Senior Center, Inc. 75 Groton Road, N. Chelmsford, MA 01863.
