Obituary for Charles M. "Charlie" Gallagher

Charles Michael Gallagher, age 76, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was born on July 26, 1946 in Chelmsford to the late Charles Leo and Louise (Kennedy) Gallagher.

Charlie attended Chelmsford Schools, graduating from Chelmsford High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Navy and completed training at Naval Hospital Corps School. Charlie served as a medic aboard the USS Guadalcanal. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He went on to graduate from Salem State University with a BS degree. Charlie then began a career in pharmaceutical sales. He was a competitive golfer and tennis player, and he was always known for his fabulous sense of humor. Charlie was known to entertain family and friends by singing and playing the guitar at various get togethers.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Sunday Gallagher Strange and her husband, Dr. Robert Strange of Virginia, and their two children, Gwyneth and Griffin Strange; his son, Matthew Gallagher and his wife Rachel Gallagher of Virginia, and their three children, Emily, Brady, and Cameron Gallagher; his former wife, June (Stankatis) Gallagher; and his sister, Louise Gosselin of Chelmsford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, many of whom still recall beautiful memories of family vacations at Plaice Cove on Hampton Beach. Charlie was sadly predeceased by his sister, Susan Hammond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22nd at 11am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Kindly gather at church. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s memory to the Wounded Warriors Project at woundedwarriorproject.org/support.
