Charles J. Berger, Jr., age 86, a lifetime Chelmsford resident passed away peacefully on June 21, 2020 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veteran’s Hospital, Bedford, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Hewett) Berger with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her passing in August 3, 2014.
He was born on July 2, 1933 in Lowell and was a son of the late Charles J. and Mabel (Creamer) Berger.
Charles was raised in Chelmsford and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School with the Class of 1953. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served during the Korean War, stationed in Newfoundland. He then met and married his beloved wife Claire Hewett in 1956. They settled in Chelmsford where they raised their two sons. After being honorably discharged, Charles worked for Allard and Berger Chevrolet in Billerica for 15 years as an auto mechanic. He then went on to work at various Chevrolet dealers including AC Chevrolet, Acton, Lannon Chevrolet in Woburn, and Mirak in Arlington. He retired in 1989 and his spare time he enjoyed building model airplanes, model trains, and camping with his family. He was an avid sports fan, and was a handyman around his house. Most of all Charles enjoyed spending time with his family.
Charles leaves his sons Charles J. Berger III of Chelmsford and Robert J. Berger and his wife Nouch EK Berger of Pelham, NH, his brother John Berger and his wife Judy of Florida, and his nieces Maureen Berger and Kristen Berger.
Funeral Services and Interment will be held privately.
