Obituary for Carol Ann Cartier (McInerney)

Carol A. (McInerney) Cartier, 86, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Sunny Acres Legacy Care, Chelmsford, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Boston on November 12, 1936 and was the daughter of the late James and Josephine (Antonitis) McInerney and stepdaughter of the late Alfred H. Perry, Sr.

Carol was raised in Boston, and married Gino Lombardo in 1966. They settled in Woburn to raise their family. Carol’s daughter Denise was born in October of ‘66. Her greatest joy came from her daughter, as she devoted her whole heart and soul into her life. That joy grew even larger when Denise gave birth to Carol’s first grandchild, Nicole, in ‘94. Carol quickly took the role of grandmother, developing the more unique role of ‘nanny’ later on. Denise’s family grew with three more children; Colin, Caitlyn, and Braeden, and the memories that were created were ones that will last a lifetime; trips to Lake Winnipesaukee every summer, sleepovers at Nanny’s playing Pokeno, dance recitals, baseball games, lunch at Friendly’s, and of course the countless hours spent at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, where she ended up passing this past Monday. Carol worked at Sunny Acres for almost 29 years, cultivating friendships that some may say are more like family. We cannot express enough gratitude towards Sunny Acres and their staff for creating an environment where she felt safe, loved, and prayed for. Carol passed away with every single part of her heart surrounding her, which we know is exactly what she would have wanted.

Carol’s legacy will continue to live on, despite her not being with us. Her spiritual attitude, witty sense of humor, and devotion she had towards her family, is something that we all can take with us through all walks of life.

Carol leaves her daughter, Denise and her husband Larry O’Connell, Jr. of Boxford; her grandchildren, Nicole, Colin, Caitlyn, and Braeden O’Connell all of Boxford; and her siblings, Robert V. Perry of Raynham, Josephine Perry Alldredge of Woburn, and Kenneth J. Perry and his wife Peggy of Woburn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sadly, she is predeceased by her siblings, James W. McInerney, Jr, Marie Perry Goldman, and Alfred H. “Sonny” Perry, Jr.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 6, at 11:00 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. KINDLY GATHER AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem St., Woburn at 1:00 pm. Kindly gather at the main gate.
