Obituary for Carl R Anderson

Carl R. Anderson, lifelong resident of Westford and Owner of Anderson Fruit Farm in Westford, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born on September 16, 1934 in the old Bob Prescott house that stood at 6 Hunt Rd., Westford, and was a son of the late Gustave L. and Hilma E. (Monson) Anderson.

Carl graduated from Westford Academy in 1954 where he was an avid sports enthusiast. In its inaugural year of 2001, Carl was inducted into the Westford Academy Sports Hall of Fame. He joined the Air Force at the time of the Korean War and was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. When Carl returned from the service, he was employed by JP Stevens Company in addition to working with his parents on their family farm, Anderson Fruit Farm. In 1967, he and his wife, Eileen purchased the 60 acre fruit farm from his parents. In 1985, the farm was increased by an additional 120+ acres and at that time, the farm stand was moved from Chamberlain Road to Main Street in Westford. Carl grew some of the best peaches in the area and using an antique cider mill, he hand pressed his own cider. Customers traveled from all over the region to purchase the fruits of his labor (no pun intended.) Carl devoted his life to the farm and his family.

Carl was a lifetime member of the Chelmsford Elks. He was long time member of the Nabnasset Lake Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and always enjoyed a good laugh with great friends from Nab. He spent many years at his home in the Dominican Republic which he opened to his family and friends. He maintained many fond memories from the island when he moved back to Massachusetts in 2009.

Carl is survived by his wife, Eileen (O’Neill), his children, Colleen (Anderson) Lynam of FL, Son-in-law Shaun Lynam of Westford, Joan of Westford, Carl and his wife Pam (Kasilowski) of FL, Sheila (Anderson) Whyte and her husband Gordon of Melbourne, Australia, Janice (Anderson) Stack and her husband Robert of Orange, MA, and Derek and his wife Amy (Gilbride) of Westford. He was predeceased by his son David in 2016. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Garrett Lynam, Jillian (Lynam) Feeney and her husband Paul, Ashley Anderson, Carl Anderson, Erin (Murphy) Gonzalez and her husband Juan, Morgan Murphy, Ryan Murphy and his wife Danielle, Jamie Whyte, Jordan Anderson and Nicholas Anderson, and his great granddaughter Addison Feeney. He is also survived by his three sisters, Edith (Anderson) Lowney and her husband Edmund of Fitchburg (formerly of Westford), Shirley Anderson and her partner Patti Patnaude of Methuen and Beverly Anderson of Chelmsford. He was predeceased by his brothers Andrew Anderson and his wife Beverly of Westford, John Anderson of Westford and his sister Barbara (Anderson) Maffee, her husband Frank and their son Donald of Nashua, NH. He sadly leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great friends from NLCC, and many friends in the Dominican Republic.
