Obituary for Beverly A. Runge (Breen)

Beverly A. (Breen) Runge, 88, a resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on April 28th at the Palm Center, Chelmsford, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert F. “Albie” Runge with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

She was born in Lowell on April 14, 1935, and was a daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy (Hill) Breen.

Beverly graduated from Lowell High School class of 1954. Beverly and her husband moved to Chelmsford where they resided for 56 years. She worked at Raytheon in Billerica, Bedford, Sudbury, and Waltham until she retired in 1997.

Bev was an avid tennis player and played with a special group of ladies until she was 81 years old. She enjoyed playing doubles back in the day with the local folks at Shedd Park. Tennis was her passion, where she found herself in numerous tournaments, and proudly, many victories in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. She was also a tennis pro at local tennis clubs. She was always athletic and active and enjoyed golf, skating and cheering on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Additionally, she loved spending time with her family, spending many summers at the beach, in her pool and trying her luck at the casino. Bev was like a mom to so many; she loved a great laugh and will be missed by all that had the pleasure of spending time with her.

Beverly leaves her daughter, Sheryl Runge and her partner Alyssa Abbott of Chelmsford and her grand puppy Haas and grand kitty Casey; and her sister Patricia (Breen) Griffin and her husband Edward of Hernando, FL. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Francis “Buddy” Breen.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 3pm-6pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her funeral service and interment will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen MA 01844.
