Obituary for Beverly J. Hedison (Barsorian)

Beverly J. Hedison was born in Lowell, MA to the late Miran and Elizabeth (Kalajian) Barsorian on July 7, 1936. Up until 2019, she remained active as a substitute for the Chelmsford School System, enjoying her trips to the casinos and travels around the world. She loved her family, cherished her memories and knew how to make each person feel loved and special. Mom was a kind, lovable and caring soul.

She graduated from the Lowell High School and Lowell State Teacher’s College receiving her Masters from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

She was the Director for the Chapter One for several years. After retiring as a teacher from the Chelmsford School System, she missed her students so much that she became a substitute at CHS, McCarthy and Parker. She loved being with the students and was known to many as the “prune fairy” giving out jolly ranchers by discretely calling them nutritious prunes.

Our mother was a very loving and caring person with a great sense of humor. She loved the old as well as the young. Her sons took excellent care of her. David, the Director of the Chelmsford Housing Authority kept her busy traveling to many places. She loved her trips to Las Vegas, Sardinia, Italy and cruises. Her other son Bruce, a school teacher in Hudson, MA was always there to fix whatever needed to be fixed and was always there to take care of anything she could ever need or want.

She would say that she had the very best parents. Her dear parents gave her the insights in life especially the saying “whatever you throw out will always come back to you.” Her father owned Puritan Market and was called The Angel of South Street. He fed the poor and helped so many who were down and out. She would remind her children that it is not the material things you leave behind but the difference you make in helping others. She was a life long member of Sts. Vantanantz Armenian Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Women's Guild and served on it's Executive Board. It was her second home. She was the first chairperson of the ACYOA youth group and was honored in 2017.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, her sweet brother Bill Barsorian and her best friend/sister who she loved so dearly, Diana Maloomian. She was also the mother of the late Holly Ferguson.

She leaves behind her favorite left handed son, Bruce W. Hedison of Boston, MA, her favorite right handed son David J. Hedison and husband Nenad Petrovic of Newton, grandchildren Alex Walker of Lowell, MA and Olivia Walker of Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, she wanted to remember her favorite nieces Lynn Lipinsky of Carlisle, MA, Mary Aranosian of Concord, NH, Mary Mimi Banaian Sylvain and Janet Barsorian of Lowell, MA and her dear friend of many years - Edgar Movsesian of Haverhill, MA.

She will miss her favorite bridge friends, Mary Mansur, Donna Rice and Sandy Boroyan. I made the contract girls.

Donations in her memory can be made to Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church, 180 Old Westford Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824.
