Obituary for Betty L. Hunter (Smith)

Betty Hunter, 94, a resident of Chelmsford, MA, passed away on December 13, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Harold P. Hunter for 40 years before his passing in 1988.

Betty was born in Somerville, MA on September 24, 1926. She was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1944. Betty was a hard-working woman her whole life at home and for Mitre Corp. in Bedford, MA, retiring in 1989.

She enjoyed quilting as a member of the Chelmsford Quilters Guild, knitting, camping in Maine and the beach. She was an avid reader and Texas Hold ‘em player. She especially enjoyed being with family and many friends.

Betty is survived by her son, Leo Hunter and his wife, Ann of Pepperell, MA; her daughters, Janet Banks and her husband, the late Matthew Banks of Hudson, NH and Patricia McGovern and her husband, Tom of Great Falls, VA; her grandchildren, Casey Finnegan and his wife, Kerry, Lauren Aponte and her husband, Luis, Megan McGovern, Jenny Evans and her husband, Keith and Molly Goggin and her husband, Tim; and seven great grandchildren, Molly, Kaelan, Broghan, Riley, Elsie, Anneliese and Harper. She is also survived by her sister, Joan St. Germain and her companion, Butch of Phoenix, AZ; her sister-in-law, Nancy Hudson of Dover, NH; her brother-in-law, Harmon P. Hunter of Nova Scotia; and her dear friends Heather, Glenn and Sarah Brigham.

She was predeceased, as mentioned before, by her husband Harold, and infant grandson Jeffrey Harold Hunter.

The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, Littleton, MA, for the kind and compassionate care given to her and much gratitude to Lauren Gaffney.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visiting hours. There will be a Celebration of Life in the spring.
