Obituary for Betty M. Fahey (MacDougall)

Betty M. (MacDougall) Fahey, 89, a resident of Chelmsford for over 60 years, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday April 27, 2019 at Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua, NH, following a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Fahey.

She was born in Portland, ME on May 7, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Howard and Doris (Wadsworth) MacDougall. Betty was raised in Watertown, and graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1947.

Following High School, Betty went to work for John Hancock Insurance, later working as a waitress at Friendly's in Chelmsford center for many years.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Chelmsford.

Betty's pride and joy was her family and friends. They are what she lived for, and she devoted her life to making sure they were always taken care of.

She enjoyed playing cards, was an avid golfer and was a loyal and passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Betty is survived by her loving children; Kathleen and Daniel Martino of Las Vegas, NV. Jamie and Kathy Fahey of Nashua, NH, Judith and Scott Barisano of Tyngsboro, Jean and Marty Miller of Chelmsford, Paul and Susan Fahey of Dracut and her daughter in-law Lisa Fahey of Penacook, NH, her 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her brother, Howard MacDougall and his wife Marion of Bedford, NH, her sister Barbara Reichert of Billerica, and sisters in-law; Jeanne MacDougall of Ocala, FL and Judith Silck and her husband Jack of Winthrop. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was the loving mother of the late Timothy Fahey, beloved grandmother of the late Meghan Fahey and great-grandmother of the late Elle Ava Fahey-Hamilton, Christie Lynn Martino and Ava Liyanah Mackenzie. She was also predeceased by her brother Robert MacDougall and her lifelong best friend and neighbor Helen Morris.

It being Betty's wish, there will be no visiting hours. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 11 AM in St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, CHELMSFORD. ALL ARE ASKED TO KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, CHELMSFORD. For those who wish, expressions of sympathy may be made in Betty's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
