Obituary for Barbara A. Schindler

Barbara A. (Bernardi) Schindler, 83, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John K. Schindler with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.

Barbara was born in Boston on August 31, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Alfred C. and Mary M. (Froio) Bernardi.

Barbara was raised in East Boston and Medford, MA. Barbara worshipped and studied at the Most Holy Redeemer Parish in East Boston. She graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston. Barbara’s personality shined bright as a loving Wife and stay at home Mom, a Girl Scout leader supporting the youth and a portrait photographer once her children were grown. Her creativity and passion made every milestone in life so special for all, especially Christmas with her beautiful village displays. Barbara’s commitment to her faith ran deep; she cherished the Carmelites and was a communicant at St. Mary’s Parish in Chelmsford.

Barbara’s real joy was her family. Her nurturing style filled our lives with love, warmth, support and protection that will remain in our hearts forever. In addition to her loving husband, John, Barbara leaves her children, Laura Schindler Grant and her husband Douglas of Edinburgh Scotland, John Dietrich Schindler of Roxbury MA, Kendra Schindler Sheridan and her husband Robert of Milton MA; her two grandchildren, Catriona Grant and Mason Sheridan; her sister Dorothy Getty of Wilmington MA, her nephew Mark Getty and his wife Debra of Pelham NH, Lubelia Getty of Woburn MA and her three great nieces, Arianna, Angela and Sienna Getty; and her many cousins, friends and neighbors.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Mary Bernardi, her parent-in-laws John and Bessie Mae Schindler, her brother-in-law Kenneth Getty, her sister-in-law, Betty Rae Schindler McCormack and her nephew David Getty.

Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. Kindly meet at Church. Masks are required. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
