Obituary for Barbara A. Pickering (Munroe)

Barbara A. (Munroe) Pickering, age 68, a longtime resident of North Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, August 8, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Dennis Pickering with whom she enjoyed over 35 years of marriage.

She was born in Boston on March 14, 1954 and was the daughter of the late Daniel Munroe and Mary (Connolly) Willard.

Barbara attended Chelmsford Public Schools and worked as a devoted caregiver at Alpine Nursing Home for many years. She enjoyed many years serving customers at G&G Liquor store. She recently retired from Lowell General Hospital where she worked for 20 years as a processing technician for surgical services.

Barbara was well-loved by many people because of her kind spirit, her caring listening, and her desire to help everyone. Barbara enjoyed music and dancing, playing BINGO and KENO, and spending time on the beach with her family and friends. She also enjoyed treasure hunting, crocheting and knitting, and cooking for her family and friends. She was always up for fun, especially trips to Foxwoods with her twin, and riding the birthday bus with her 3 sisters. Spending time with her granddaughter Ella and Ella’s brother Dominic was very special to her. In recent years, watching DABL was a favorite hobby.

Barbara is survived by a son Scott Pickering and his partner Kristin, a granddaughter Ella and her brother Dominic, a brother Frank Munroe and his wife Maureen, a sister Bunny Knight, a sister Mary Ellen Nihan and her husband Jim, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul McPhillips and Carol Munroe. She was the adored aunt of many nieces and nephews, and a friend to many, particularly her close friend Matt. In addition to her loving husband, she is predeceased by a brother George Munroe, her beloved twin sister Geraldine "Geri" McPhillips, and a brother-in-law Dixon Knight.

A celebration of Barbara’s life and interment will be held privately.
