Anthony Joseph Horman, Jr., 94, of Windham, NH, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 23, 2021. He was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Doherty) Horman.
Anthony was born on December 17, 1926, in Providence, RI, and was raised in Dracut, MA. He attended Keith Academy, formerly located in Lowell, and graduated in 1945. Anthony then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 through 1946 receiving the Meritorious Unit Award and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent. Anthony worked at the former Fort Devens in Ayer, MA, and was a financial analyst from 1950 to 1983 and received the Commanders Civil Service Award. Retiring from there, he went on to work for Merrimack Valley Elder Services in the accounting department for 19 years.
Prior to moving to New Hampshire, Anthony lived in Dracut for many years where he raised his family. He was known as someone who could not sit for very long. He was always tinkering around the house, fixing things from bathroom tiles to roofing his own house. When he was not being the household handyman, Anthony could be found baking his popular pumpkin bread or making “Papa’s Meatballs”. Being the family cook, he was always in charge of making the Thanksgiving dinner, even when they were held at his daughter Arlene’s house. Not only was Anthony an astounding tomato gardener, he also had an ear for music and was an accomplished musician. For decades, he played the trombone and piano in the Jack Keefe Orchestra and the Angie Bergamini Band as well as many other bands. Anthony was so talented that when he played the song “The Sound of Music” on the piano at a wedding, he received a standing ovation.
Anthony loved his family dearly and will be sincerely missed. He is survived by his wife Frances (Wesson) Horman and his five children, Anthony Horman and his wife Christy, Mary Billian and her husband Russell, Barbara Kiskinis and her husband Michael, Arlene H. Mullin, and Joanne Manning and her husband Steven. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister Elaine Nelson and his grandchildren Nathan, Melissa, and Sean Horman, Damon and Jason Billian, Karlene Leblond and Jonathan Kiskinis, Hannah and Hayley Mullin, and Steven and Brittany Manning. Anthony is predeceased by his brother Harry Horman and his granddaughter Michelle Horman.
