Obituary for Ann B. Ott (Marr)

Ann (Marr) Ott, a resident of Westford for the past several years and former longtime resident of Groton, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Robert Ott with whom she shared 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2017.

She was born in Seattle, WA on June 12, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Irvine and Frances (Appleton) Marr. After marrying Charles (“Murph”), who was in the Air Force, they moved to Texas, New Hampshire, and back to Washington State. By the time they left Washington State for Potsdam, NY, they had five children. After several years in NY, they moved to Massachusetts and lived in Chelmsford before building their dream home in Groton.

Ann received her BA in Elementary Education from the University of Washington in 1955 and her MS in Education from New York State University at Potsdam in 1974. Ann was a dedicated teacher, having taught full-time in Brasher Falls, NY, before moving to Massachusetts where she was a substitute teacher at the Chelmsford Middle and High Schools. She also taught ESL classes, was a science fair judge, Cub Scout leader, and volunteered teaching young children to read.

Ann was a very active member of Eliot Presbyterian Church in Lowell. She was a Ruling Elder and taught Christian education. She served on and chaired many committees and enjoyed the church community and its mission.

She was also a member of Chapter G of the PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), an international organization providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide.

Ann was an avid reader, loved to play Rummikub, loved singing, enjoyed soap operas, and thought a big bowl of buttery/salty popcorn was the best dinner! Above all else, her primary joy was her large family and she cherished her time spent with them.

Ann is survived by her five children, Charles Ott, Jr. and his wife Ol Ny of Lowell, Karin Bischoff and her husband Karl of Chelmsford, Janie Ginsburg and her husband Larry of Mashpee, Amy Kirk and her husband Jay of Townsend, and Peter Ott and his wife Charlotte of Stow. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, Emilie, Anna, Stephen, Daniel, Suki, Jesse, Eli, Lila, Jennifer, Matthew, Lauren, Jeffrey, Erica and Grace; five great-grandchildren, Karina, Ezra, Gabriella, Milo, and Charles; and her siblings, David Marr of Kenmore, WA, "Ginny" Miller and her husband Don of Puyallup, WA, Debbie Ederer and her husband Bob of Kirkland, WA, and Susie Bordner and her husband Tucker of Kirkland, WA. Ann was also the sister of the late Peter Marr.

At her request, visiting hours have been omitted. A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Eliot Presbyterian Church, 273 Summer St., Lowell, MA. Interment will be held privately.
