Obituary for Andrew V. Silinsh

Andrew V. Silinsh, age 83, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at The Atrium at Drum Hill, North Chelmsford on Sunday, September 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Bailey) Silinsh with whom he enjoyed 59 years of marriage. He was born in Riga, Latvia on March 28, 1939 and was the son of the late Valdis and Vera (Brazavs) Silinsh.

He was a war refugee, an immigrant, a loving son, a scholar, an artist, a gentleman-mountaineer, and a gardener. He was a better cook than musician, but he loved both. He was a loving husband, an amazing father, a gleeful brother, a “crazy uncle”, and an adoring grandfather. He was a computer engineer who changed vacuum tubes and wrote code, and he strove to be as joyful with his coworkers as with his family.

He loved the community of Chelmsford, and served as a Town Meeting Representative, on the Chelmsford Library Board of Trustees, and the town’s Tree Committee. He has given so many trees to family and friends it’s hard to count them all. He was also part of the Chelmsford Rotary Club for many years. Outside of Chelmsford he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Johns Hopkins University.

In addition to his loving wife, Andrew is survived by his daughter Lara and her husband Derek Trimble, son Eric Silinsh, grandchildren Shea and Sean Trimble, and Sia and Imogen Silinsh and their mother Mariah, his step-brother Jack Capants and his wife Aija, and the memory of his son David and his brother John. He is also survived by a large family of nieces and nephews and cousins and friends who enriched his life and gave him joy.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 22nd from 4pm to 7pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 170 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford. Kindly gather at the Church.
